Wisconsin Badgers junior linebacker Jack Cichy has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2016 season due to a torn pectoral muscle he suffered during Saturday’s win over Iowa. Cichy is currently the Badgers’ leading tackler on the season.

Last season, Cichy totaled 60 tackles in 12 games for the Badgers as a sophomore, with eight of them coming for a loss, along with five sacks. This season, he’s tied that 60-tackle mark already through the front seven games, and he will finish the season with that mark again. He’ll also end the year with seven tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks.

A former walk-on for the Badgers from Hill Murray School in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the 6’2″ 223-pound linebacker will still have another season of eligibility on campus at Madison, looking to get off that 60-tackle plateau that he has churned out for the past two seasons.

With Cichy out, the team will turn to either junior Garrett Dooley, who put forth a sterling effort against Iowa with two and a half tackles for a loss, or senior Leon Jacobs, who is more experienced at the inside ‘backer position that Cichy filled. The No. 11 ranked Badgers will welcome in the No. 7 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers this Saturday, with both teams looking up at Michigan (No. 2) and Ohio State (No. 6) in the polls.

Saturday’s game against Nebraska appears to be Wisconsin’s final true battle of the season, having lost back-to-back weeks to Michigan and Ohio State, before snapping the losing streak with a win for the Heartland Trophy against Iowa last week.
