Steve Hawkins and Western Michigan suffered some bad news Thursday, when it was learned leading-returning scorer Connar Tava will be out indefinitely with a broken foot, as David Drew of Mlive.com reports.

The 6’6”, 245-pound senior forward from Macomb, Michigan is set to have surgery on Friday, Hawkins said. There has been no timetabable yet set for his return
This is a big blow, as Tava was the Broncos leading-returning scorer (12.5 points per game), rebounder (6.2 rebounds per game) and distributor (3.3 assists per game). Tava, an all-Mac Honorable Mention performer last season, is a tough, hard-nosed player and his production and experience will be sorely missed. Senior forward Anthony Avery is expected to pick up some of the slack in Tava’s stead.
Western Michigan is set to open their season at DePaul on November 14, a game which Tava will assuredly miss. The Broncos are coming off a solid season in which they made the CIT and finished 20-14 (10-8 in the MAC) last year.
