According to a report from Chase Goodbread of College Football 24/7, Washington State safety Shalom Luani was arrested early Wednesday morning on a second-degree assault charge.

Luani reportedly became upset that his order at Domino’s Pizza in Pullman was taking too long. The restaurant asked him to leave, but he subsequently got into a physical altercation with another customer. According to Pullman police, Luani refused to accept a refund when offered and struck a 20-year-old man with an open hand. The fight carried on outside the restaurant and police spokesperson Chris Tennant says the victim suffered a broken nose.

Alcohol was reportedly a factor in the incident and Luani was released by police later on in the morning. Going forward, a prosecutor will now be forced to determine whether or not to file formal charges against him.

It is also worth noting that second-degree assault is a felony.

The senior safety notably served as a starter for the Cougars last season and went on to record 67 tackles to go along with four interceptions – one of which was returned for a touchdown – and six passes defensed. He earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors in 2015-2016 as well.

Washington State finished 9-4 last season under head coach Mike Leach, good for third place in the Pac-12 North. They toppled the Miami Hurricanes 20-14 in the Hyundai Sun Bowl, a game in which Luani picked off a pass. The Cougars are currently on the outside looking in on the preseason AP top 25, though the program did receive strong consideration.
