Arizona quarterback Connor Brewer decided to transfer to Virginia and be immediately eligible to play for the 2015 season, as he announced on Tuesday. Brewer has already graduated and will have two years of eligibility left with the Cavaliers.
With Greyson Lambert opting to leave Virginia last month and recently transferring to Georgia, the Cavs now have another quarterback they can lean for this upcoming season. Brewer had previously committed to Northern Arizona, but once Lambert left, he hooked up with the Cavs and decided they were the best fit.
More from Joe Schad of ESPN:
“Virginia is an excellent opportunity to continue to pursue my career and education,” Brewer said.
Brewer said he knew Lambert from Elite 11 Camp. He said he is aware of Houston Texans quarterback Tom Savage, who also competed at three major college programs — Rutgers, Arizona and Pittsburgh.
“I’m going to get there and try to learn the playbook as quickly as possible,” Brewer said. “I’m going to give it my all in whatever role I am asked.”
As mentioned, Virginia will be Brewer’s third school, as he began his career at Texas. Although Virginia coach Mike London has tabbed Matt Johns as his starting quarterback, Brewer will add some valuable insurance.
Virginia opens their season at UCLA on September 5.
