USC Coach Steve Sarkisian to Take Temporary Leave

All is not well in Southern California.

Steve Sarkisian has been asked to take a temporary leave of absence from coaching the USC Trojans. Per Scott Wolf of the Los Angeles Daily News, Sarkisian is “not healthy” and will seek treatment for drinking problems. He was sent home by athletic director Pat Haden during today’s practice.

This isn’t the first Sarkisian alchol-related incident to have filled our timelines. Over the summer, Sarkisian appeared to be intoxicated on stage during an event with boosters. He later admitted to mixing prescpriton drugs with alcoholic beverages.

Despite preseason hype as a potential Pac-12 Conference champion and College Football Playoff contender, USC is 3-2 (1-2), which includes a disappointing 17-12 loss to Washington — Sarkisian’s former team — in Week 6.

Offensive coordinator Clay Helton is expected to take over as the interim coach until Sarkisian returns.

Best of luck to Sarkisian and here’s to hoping he’s able to get help, figure things out, and get sober.
