According to Kyle Austin of the MLive Media Group, Michigan State fifth-senior linebacker Ed Davis suffered a season-ending knee injury Wednesday during practice. Devastated, Spartans coach Mark Dantonio quickly released a statement supporting one of his emotional leaders.

Davis, a 6’3,” 230-pounder out of Detroit, was expected to be a dominant force for the Spartans’ vaunted defense, which finished as the No. 8-ranked total defense this past season, according to NCAA.com.
The three-year letterman has tallied 80 career tackles and 11 sacks in 40 games. Due to a strong 2014 in which he made 12 starts, Davis earned a spot on the 2015 preseason Bednarik (top defensive player) Watch List, Lindy’s All-Big Ten watch list and was tabbed with preseason first-teamer honors from The Sporting News.
