One of the better quarterback prospects in the 2016 high school football class, Woody Barrett, made a commitment to play football for Auburn on Wednesday. Barrett, a 6’2”, 219-pound dual-threat quarterback from Orlando, Florida (West Orange High School) gave Gus Malzahn his seventh recruit for the 2016 class.
More from Wesley Sinor of AL.com:
“He’s got a really big body and great frame,” Barrett’s coach, Bob Head, told AL.com. “He doesn’t have any fat on him. He reminds me of a Steve McNair or Vince Young type-body, he looks like a linebacker. He’s really naturally strong and runs the ball like a running back. We’re working on his accuracy, but he’s really tough and plays with a reckless abandon and it brings the best out of his natural instincts. He’s very dynamic.”
Barrett led Class 8A West Orange (11-1) with 1,558 yards and 24 touchdowns through the air as a junior, while adding more than 800 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.
Off the field, Head described his star player as a “really good kid.”
Barrett chose the Tigers over interest from Oregon and Alabama. He will join an Auburn quarterback corps that includes Jeremy Johnson, Sean White and Taylor McQueen.
