Texas upsets Baylor, 35-34, stays unbeaten at home

The Texas Longhorns secured their second major upset win of the season at home on Saturday when they knocked off No. 8 Baylor, 35-34, on a final-minute field goal. The win moves the Longhorns to just 4-4 on the season, but gives them wins in all four of their true home games in 2016.

Although it was kicker Trent Domingue who nailed a 39-yard field goal with 46 seconds to play that put the Longhorns up for good, the player of the game for the burnt orange was unquestionably junior running back D’Onta Foreman, who carried the ball 32 times for 250 times and two touchdowns. Entering the game, Foreman had already established himself as the bell cow in the Texas backfield, now having surpassed the 1,000-yard mark on the season and crossed the goal line for the 10th time.

For a 35-34 football game, both prolific passing offenses were kept quite docile. Baylor senior Seth Russell went 14-for-28 with 226 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Texas’s true freshman Shane Buechele went 12-for-21 with 291 passing yards and two scores.

The win keeps some heat off Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong, who has been under heavy scrutiny yet again for the team’s slow start. They’ve yet to win a road game in 2016, beginning the season 0-4, as they head on the road next week to Lubbock, where they’ll face a 4-4 Texas Tech Red Raiders team.

The loss for Baylor was their first of the season. With the Bears having lost on the same day as West Virginia, the Big 12 Conference now has no remaining teams unblemished in the loss column. They’ll return home next weekend when they welcome in the 4-4 TCU Horned Frogs.
