The Syracuse Orange picked up a verbal commitment from three-star, 2017 running back Markenzy Pierre on Saturday afternoon.

The 5-11, 218-pound back out of Kissimmee, Florida originally offered up a pledge to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers during the dog days of the summer. However, the Orange dished out an offer on Thursday causing Pierre to flip.

Pierre has garnered interest from all over the country with 15 offers fielded thus far. He has received offers from such FBS clubs as Utah State, Middle Tennessee State, Appalachian State, Kent State, Florida International, East Carolina and Texas-San Antonio.

The senior is making noise for his high school program (Liberty) this season following a junior campaign in which he racked up 1,677 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Heading to Western Kentucky would be enough for an offensive player to drool, considering Jeff Brohm’s high-paced system has given Conference USA defenses fits for the better part of three seasons. Flipping from Western Kentucky to Syracuse isn’t a step down, however.

First-year head coach Dino Babers, who is fresh off a two-year spell with the Bowling Green Falcons, has implemented his uptempo blueprint out east, which includes the tagline “Orange is the New Fast.” The Orange are looking to compete in the ACC and have leaned on the offensive prowess of Babers thus far. The offense has been completely revamped under sophomore quarterback Eric Dungey, who has added a nice spark in Babers’ first season with the Orange.

Pierre is another weapon to add in the 2017 class, should he follow through with his commitment to Syracuse.
