In the final installment of my SEC position rankings, we end with one of the most underrated but important positions in all of football: safety. As the last line of defense, a safety’s job description includes everything from stopping the run to playing zone coverage to sticking with tight ends and receivers. Modern safeties can’t be one-dimensional, especially those in the SEC.

Alabama has produced several first-round safeties in the past few drafts, including Mark Barron and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. And once again, Nick Saban has another top-10 safety on his hands. It’s no coincidence that a Crimson Tide safety is my top-ranked player at the position, but who else made the cut? Read on to see my top five SEC safeties.
