Report: UNC’s Roy Williams Hard After Seventh Woods

In Roy Williams’ fantastic run as a head coach at UNC, he has recruited several high-major players and more often than not, he has hit on most of them. Well, it turns out he’s picking it up an extra notch in the recruitment of four-star guard Seventh Woods.

Ross Martin, who covers North Carolina for 247 Sports, had this to say on Twitter on Thursday.

That’s a strong statement if there ever was one. Again, Williams has been coaching for nearly 30 years, while coaching for two of the more historic programs (he coached Kansas before North Carolina) in college basketball history. So,  he has recruited the cream of the crop when it comes to high-level recruits.

As Martin pointed out, it worked in the recruitment of Harrison Barnes, too.

Woods, a 6’1”, 175-pound guard from Columbia, South Carolina, is worth the attention, though. He is rated as four-star recruit according to 247 Sports. Woods is ranked as the No. 41 player in the 2016 class and the sixth best combo guard in the country.

Woods is now reportedly down to three schools, with the Tar Heels getting stiff competition from Georgetown and hometown favorite South Carolina. He rose to attention years ago as a middle school phenomenon (thank YouTube) and has matured into a complete player.

It remains to be seem if Williams can land Woods, but it seems he’s at least putting in the extra work. Woods is expected to make his college announcement any day now.
