According to Dan Wolken of USA Today, the Sun Belt Conference is set to accept Coastal Carolina as their 12th member on Tuesday. Sources connected to Wolken says an announcement will take place on Tuesday at Coastal Carolina’s campus.
The Chanticleers will join the Sun Belt in 2016 in all sports except football, which is expected to have an FBS transitional year and then be a full member starting in the 2017 season.
Coastal Carolina will be making the jump from the FCS, where it was a member of the Big South Conference. With the move, the school is expected to announce stadium upgrades and expansion, as its current stadium seats just 9,000.
Coastal Carolina will enhance the Sun Belt in basketball (NCAA Tourney last two years) and baseball (5 of last 6 NCAAs). That was a factor.

The Chanticleers will join South Alabama, Idaho, New Mexico State, Georgia Southern, Louisiana Lafayette, Texas State, Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Georgia State, Louisiana-Monroe and Troy in the Sun Belt.
Joe Moglia, who is the head coach of the Chanticleers, has guided the team to back-to-back conference championships and quarterfinal appearances in the FCS playoffs. Under his watch, Coastal Carolina has a 32-10 record.
To bad David Bennett is not the coach anymore, though, as he could be prepping cats to play more like dogs with the move to the FBS division.
