When you think of the Big 12 Conference, you think of high-scoring shootouts that begin and end with the passing game. You think of quarterbacks that are throwing the ball until their arms fall off, poor man coverage and a lot of big-time downfield plays (four Big 12 teams had 17 or more plays of 40-plus yards in 2014, which was most in the nation).
While that will still very much be the case in 2015, we still don’t really know who will be slinging the pigskin around for the majority of the teams. Only five quarterbacks have solidified a starting spot heading into fall camp, and one of them may have to relinquish his position on the depth chart due to injury.
One thing is for certain, though: there will be plenty of lightshows. And it’s gonna be fun.
Here’s how I rank all of the conference’s quarterbacks as we grind our way through May.
No. 6-10 (in order): Baker Mayfield*, Oklahoma; Sam Richardson, Iowa State; Tyrone Swoopes*, Texas; Joe Hubener*, Kansas State; Michael Cummings, Kansas.
