Oregon walk-on quarterback Taylor Alie is expected to get the start today for the Ducks’ Pac-12 matchup with Washington State, according to a report by Justin Hopkins of 247Sports.com.

Alie, a 6-foot, 185-pound redshirt sophomore whose roots come from Eugene (OR), will likely split reps with redshirt junior Jeff Lockie. Vernon Adams isn’t expected to be available, but should be fully dressed on the sideline.

“I couldn’t believe he came here, I really couldn’t,” Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich said Tuesday of Alie. “I couldn’t believe he didn’t get a scholarship somewhere else. It was one of those deals where were sitting around and watching his film, and you start to put it in your mind that guys ig going to end up wherever. Then, for whatever reason, [he] doesn’t end up getting a scholarship.”

Per the report, Alie threw for 3,183 yards, 35 touchdowns and nine interceptions his senior season with Sheldon High School in 2013, adding 447 yards seven scores on the ground.

Oregon hosts Washington State at 6 p.m. ET.
