The USC Trojans picked up a huge commitment on Christmas when Oluwole Betiku, 5-star weak-side defensive end from Gardena, Calif. (Junipero Serra), announced his commitment.
“I will be a Trojan, fighting on to greatness at USC, Betiku wrote on Twitter. He tweeted that statement along with a picture of himself from The Opening and a USC logo:

To say that this commitment is monumental would be somewhat of an understatement, especially when considering the rankings. Betiku is the consensus No. 1 weak-side defensive end in the 2016 class as well as the consensus top recruit from the state of California.
Along with that, 247Sports considers him to be the No. 6 overall recruit in the class of 2016, so he’s undoubtedly an elite player.
Betiku is 6-foot-4, 245 pounds and runs a 4.57 40, which is a very good blend of size and speed, especially for a young defender. He has a frame that he’ll be able to grow into, so his upside is ridiculously high.
USC has long been a program known for bringing in top-notch recruits, but the importance of this commitment is worth noting, especially because Clay Helton is now officially the new head coach.
He’s gone from assistant to interim head coach to being “the guy”, so bringing in a strong recruiting class will really help him jump-start his program’s momentum as we start looking ahead to 2016.
USC currently has a top 10 class nationally.
