According to Daniel Paulling of The Clarion-Ledger, Ole Miss starting linebacker C.J. Johnson will be out for the next 4-6 weeks with a torn meniscus. It was reported that Johnson underwent surgery on Tuesday.
“The best thing I love about playing sports is that it challenges your guts and determination,” the Rebels senior wrote in a Facebook post that was then posted on Twitter on Tuesday morning (per The Clarion-Ledger). “When the game knocked you down you get up and keep fighting.”
Johnson, a 6’2”, 225-pound senior from Philadelphia, Mississippi, has recorded 17 tackles and two interceptions in four games this season. If you recall, Johnson was suspended for the team’s season-opener against UT-Martin.
Expect Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze to rely on junior Terry Caldwell, who has eight tackles on the season, in Johnson’s stead. Senior Christian Russell, who has 12 tackles this season, should also see time at middle linebacker.
Ole Miss (4-1) is set to take on New Mexico State on Saturday.
