Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett felt the need to defend himself after the Buckeyes’ practice on Wednesday. Apparently, some have questioned Barrett’s arm strength and he felt compelled to fire back.

One has to wonder if Barrett is tired of being compared to Ohio State’s other quarterback, Cardale Jones, as Jones started the previous seven games to mixed results despite the Buckeyes winning all of their games. After all, Jones just happens to come in listed at 6’5”, 250-pounds.
Barrett, a 6’2”, 225-pound sophomore from Wichita Falls, Texas, is coming off his first start of the season at Rutgers last Saturday where he looked every bit the part of a star quarterback. In the Buckeyes’ 49-7 romp over the Scarlet Knights, he completed 14-18 passes for 223 yards and three touchdowns (and zero interceptions). He also rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries.
For the year, Barrett has thrown for 472 yards and seven touchdowns to go with two interceptions, while rushing for 329 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. The Buckeyes are idle this week, but will be back in action next Saturday when they host the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who will now be without coach Jerry Kill.
