The Ohio State 2017 recruiting class already was considered one of the best ever. But it lacked a star receiver. Monday, the Buckeyes doubled up with two five-star recruits.
Tyjon Lindsey of Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman and Trevon Grimes of Fort Lauderdale, FL (St. Thomas Aquinas) each verbally committed to Ohio State. They made their announcement in five-star fashion, appearing a dodge ball spoof video on Bleacher Report that featured them being the last two standing before donning Ohio State caps.
Lindsey, 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, was expected to commit to Ohio State because the Buckeyes already have landed a commitment from Tate Martel, the quarterback on Lindsey’s high school team. Bishop Gorman four-star defensive tackle Haskell Garrett has also committed to Ohio State.
Ranked as the No. 5 wide receiver in the nation, Lindsey had 45 catches for 1,117 yards and 14 touchdowns last season.
Grimes is 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds and ranked as the nation’s No. 3 receiver. He would appear to be the perfect complement to Lindsey as far as a receiving duo. Grimes was originally planning on making his college choice announcement Wednesday so the video announcement came as a surprise.
Ohio State now has commitments from six five-star recruits and its 2017 class is ranked No. 1 by 247Sports.com. Overall, the Buckeyes now have 18 verbal commitments.
