As if there weren’t enough bowls these days, the NCAA is about to add three more bowl games next season. The games will be played in Orlando, Florida, Tuscon, Arizona and Austin, Texas. With the addition of these new bowl games, the NCAA will now have 82 post-season teams playing in 42 bowls across the country.
I guess the NCAA lives by the credo “the more the merrier”
From Brett McMurphy of ESPN.com:
With the three new bowls, there will be a record 42 bowl games, including the College Football Playoff title game, requiring 82 teams to fill each bowl this season. Nearly 65 percent of the 127 FBS teams will play in a bowl game after the 2015 regular season.
Matchups for the new bowls are as follows: Tucson (Mountain West versus Conference USA), Austin, Texas (American versus Sun Belt) and Orlando (American versus Sun Belt).
An official announcement is expected from the NCAA later this week, a source said.
As McMurphy reports, the Arizona Bowl will be played at University of Arizona’s stadium on December 29. The Cure Bowl in Orlando will be played at the Citrus Bowl on December 19 and according to sources, the bowl in Austin will be played at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium with no date set as of yet.
