Chris Jones has been officially dismissed from the Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball team.
It’s been a crazy week for Jones. The standout point guard was originally suspended on Tuesday for matters that have not yet been disclosed to the public. He sat out of Louisville’s loss at Syracuse and was then reinstated on Thursday, in time for Louisville’s 55-53 win over Miami (a game in which Jones shined down the stretch, finishing with 17 points and 5 rebounds in 36 minutes of play). Now, Jones’s tenure with the team is over. Louisville’s Kenny Klein broke the news earlier this afternoon:
Chris Jones has been dismissed from the University of Louisville men’s basketball team. There will be no comment on the matter.

Chris Jones was Louisville’s third-leading scorer (13.7 PPG) and he was the team’s go-to perimeter scorer down the stretch. His loss is a huge blow to a Louisville team that has struggled on the offensive end of the floor this season. The Cardinals relied heavily on Jones’s ability to make close, contested jumpshots off the dribble in crunch time. The loss of Jones is also a huge blow defensively. Jones led the team in steals.
