Kentucky and Duke Players Dominate 2015 NBA Draft

As you might expect, both Kentucky and Duke were well represented at the 2015 NBA Draft. Kentucky tied a record with four players going within the first 13 picks, with Karl-Anthony Towns predictably going No. 1 overall to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Duke, meanwhile, had three of their players get drafted in the first round, with Jahlil Okafor being the first Blue Devil selected, as he went No. 3 to the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Los Angeles Lakers drafted Ohio State’s dazzling guard D’Angelo Russell with the second pick overall.

Maybe not so coincidentally, the four teams (Kentucky, Wisconsin, Duke and Michigan State) that represented the 2015 Final Four sent 12 players to the NBA.

Buoyed by Duke (who also saw Justise Winslow and Tyus Jones get drafted, by Miami and Cleveland, respectively),  the ACC had the most first-round picks with seven. And boosted by Kentucky’s four first-round picks (Towns, Willie Cauley-Stein, Trey Lyles and Devin Booker), the SEC had six selections with Bobby Portis of Arkansas (to Chicago) and Jarrell Martin of LSU (to Memphis) being the other non-Kentucky players getting drafted.

It should be noted that Kentucky had two other selections go in the second round with Andrew Harrison going to the Phoenix Suns with the 44th pick and Dakari Johnson going to the Oklahoma City Thunder with the 48th pick. Andrew’s twin brother Aaron Harrison was the only early-entry UK player to not get drafted.
