The NCAA announced that the NIT this year will feature experimental rules that include a 30-second shot clock and a four-foot restricted area. According to John Brennan in our Fan Tweet of the Night, though, that wasn’t the end of the story:
In addition to 30-second shot clock & expanded restricted area, NIT also announces Karl Hess will officiate the championship game.

For those who forget, Karl Hess was essentially banned from officiating at the NCAA level for using a slur during one of his games. While he most assuredly won’t be back on the hardcourt for an NCAA game anytime soon, John’s idea of having Hess included in the experiment would take the event from a potential catapult towards progress to a public relations nightmare.
Your move, NCAA. We’ve seen you sell out for entertainment value and profit before. John’s brilliance just gave you the perfect roadmap for another highly questionable decision.
