According to a report from Terrance Payne of NBC Sports, Kansas student Jerrod Martin Castro is $10,000 richer after spending a Friday night at the Phog in Lawrence.
As part of a “#KULateNight” promotion with the basketball team, one lucky fan was to be selected for a one-shot giveaway for a lot of money.
Castro Martin happened to be that guy…
…all that had to happen was a successful half-court attempt by Jayhawks director of basketball operations Brennan Bechard.
Piece of cake. Bechard hit the shot, and Jayhawks coach Bill Self followed by signing the prized $10,000 check for Castro Martin.

Eric Danielson, the voice of Kansas basketball, was also the photo-taker-of-$10,000-checks-from-Kansas… guy… on Friday night. Check out the shot of Self laying down his signature at the scorer’s table.

Assuming Castro Martin is a regular student, he’s in the clear. He could even be a prospective student-athlete and still be squared away. Football player, hockey, badminton, soccer–just no tennis players, per NCAA rules via NCAA.com.
That’s when things start to get murky.
Let’s hope that Castro Martin isn’t a tennis player.
The Jayhawks landed at No. 6 on the upcoming Today’s U College Basketball Preseason Top 25 and begin their season Nov. 13 versus Northern Colorado.
