Jay Bilas and Seth Greenberg Spat on Twitter Over Student-Athlete Debate

With the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) deciding on Monday to deny Northwestern athletes the right to unionize, the topic of paying athletes and the issue of amateurism was a hot-button topic on social media.

Well, two of ESPN’s college hoops’ talking heads, Jay Bilas (a social justice warrior and overall badass) and Seth Greenberg (former coach at Virginia Tech) got into it and argued over the merits of paying athletes, free education, platforms student athletes have, and the Bachelor in Paradise (okay, the last was a joke at the end of their debate).

Greenberg innocuously started out the exchange with this Tweet:

Bilas, as one would expect, chimed back:

From there it was on. Greenberg even called out Bilas for how he used his platform of playing at Duke to help him get a cushy job at ESPN after his basketball playing days were over. Ding. Ding. Come out of your corners!

It was a heated exchange, but definitely civilized and most of all highly entertaining.

Oh and here is how the war ended with the aforementioned Bachelor reference, with Greenberg’s daughter Paige trying to play referee.
