Iowa DE Drew Ott Tears ACL, Out for Season

Iowa senior defensive end Drew Ott suffered a torn ACL during the Hawkeyes’ 29-20 win over Illinois on Saturday afternoon, according to Marc Morehouse of the Cedar Rapids Gazette.

This is tough news for the Iowa defense, which currently ranks 20th nationally in points allowed with 16.2 per game. Ott will finish the season with 7.5 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks, giving him 15.5 for his career.

According to Iowa’s depth chart (via OurLads.com), redshirt freshman Parker Hessee will be filling in — though it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that coach Kirk Ferentz will rely on several others throughout the season to attempt to make up for Ott’s absence.

With Iowa’s win, the Hawkeyes now move to 6-0 (2-0 Big Ten).
