Half the field for the inaugural Cayman Islands Classic was announced on Wednesday, with Iowa and Cincinnati headlining the field. Caymax Sports Ltd., which will run the tournament in conjunction with Global Sports Management, issued a release confirming the news.

“We are excited to have these basketball programs with rich traditions agree to be part of what promises to be one of the top preseason college basketball events annually,” said tournament director Maury Hanks (h/t HawkeyeSports.com)

“Playing this tournament in a venue alongside the most beautiful beaches in the world will make this an event that everyone in college basketball will be trying to get an opportunity to compete in for the future,” said Joe Wright, Chief Executive Officer of Caymax Sports. (h/t HawkeyeSports.com)

The other teams making up half the field are UAB and Wyoming. All of the teams announced thus far made last season’s NCAA Tournament, and each won 20 games as well. The other half of the field will be released at a later date.

These tournaments to exotic locations are always a fun time for sun, sand and hoops. The Cayman Islands Classic will be played in November of 2017.
