After spending the 2015 season with Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, former Maryland wide receiver Juwann Winfree took to Twitter on Sunday afternoon to announce his decision to transfer to Pittsburgh.
As a true freshman in 2014, Winfree (6-foot-2, 200 lbs.) made an impact appearing in eight different games, catching 11 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns. However, he missed the final two games of the season due to suspension, and then another followed that forced him to withdraw from school this past June.
The former four-star recruit will be joining a Pittsburgh receiving corps that could use a boost in both talent and depth, as only five different wide receivers caught a pass for the Panthers in 2015. Entering the postseason, Pitt has only completed 199 pass attempts (94th in the FBS), and junior Tyler Boyd — who could leave early and enter the 2016 NFL Draft — leads the team with 85 receptions.
Pittsburgh’s second-leading receiver is Dontez Ford, who has 23 catches.
Winfree finished with 55 receptions for 837 yards and seven touchdowns with Coffeyville this fall, where former Tennessee quarterback Riley Ferguson threw him passes.
