Saturday’s rivalry game between Florida and Georgia has at least one key game day injury to report before the two SEC foes take to the field. The Gators have announced that running back Jordan Cronkrite will be unavailable to them in Jacksonville against the Bulldogs.

The sophomore running back has been officially ruled out by the Gators under an hour before kickoff. The Gators have cited an undisclosed injury as the reason for Cronkrite’s absence. This is also news that could play into the hands of the 4-3 Bulldogs as they look to upset the 5-1 Gators in one of the SEC’s biggest rivalry games.

Cronkrite has increased his playing time with the Gators over the first half of the season in his second year with the team. The sophomore currently sits on 26 carries for 112 yards and one touchdown this season, but has developed a niche as a receiving back with 12 catches for 82 yards in addition to one receiving score.

Cronkrite’s injury wouldn’t have had much impact as the third back on the depth chart, but backup running back Mark Thompson is also unavailable as the result of a marijuana citation. The unavailability of two running backs now makes the Gators’ depth chart thin on Saturday in a game that should be incredibly physical.

With Cronkrite out and Thompson already suspended, the pressure will be on Jordan Scarlett and Lamical Perine to shoulder the load against the Bulldogs. Now two running backs short, the Gators need their two backs to last the full four quarters this afternoon thanks to an unfortunate situation where they will be without two of their backups for their biggest game of the season.
