Defensive back Marcus Maye, wide receiver Latroy Pittman Jr. and defensive lineman Alex McCalister will miss Florida’s season opener against New Mexico State due to a violation of team policy, the school announced on Friday.
ESPN’s Brett McMurphy confirmed the suspensions via Twitter:

McCalister, a 6’6”, 239-pound junior from Clemmons, North Carolina, was second on the team in sacks last season with six. Maye, a 6’0”, 207-pound junior from Melbourne, Florida, started nine games for the Gators at safety and nickelback last season and recorded 62 tackles, two pass deflections and one interception. Pittman, a 6’0”, 212-pound senior from Ocala, Florida, started nine games last season and registered 15 catches for 164 yards.
Both McCalister and Maye, are expected to be starters for Jim McElwain’s squad this season.
If all players face no further punishment, they will be eligible to return and play in the Gators’ second game of the season against East Carolina on September 12.
