HOUSTON, Tx. – While many recruits were trying to earn an invitation to The Opening at Nike’s Columbus Regional over the weekend, Alief Elsik linebacker Dontavious Jackson was working on trimming his list of prospective schools. That is no small task for Jackson, who currently holds 60 division one scholarship offers.
With so many schools to choose from and evaluate, Jackson eliminated over half the schools to offer him, ending up with a top 18 list.
“First off, I want to start by saying thank you to every college coach / recruiter that gave me the opportunity and believed I could be a difference as a student in their fine institutions,” Jackson posted on Twitter over the weekend. “After thinking it out and discussing it with my family, I feel now is the time to release my list of top schools.”
With that, Jackson proceeded to post his list of schools, stating that it’s a “broad list”.
Michigan, Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas and TCU—five schools that have steadfastly recruited the highly touted linebacker for quite some time, topped that broad list, which Jackson indicated is in no order.
Joining those schools is Florida State, Oklahoma, UCLA, Ohio State, Auburn, Florida, Miami (Fl.), USC, Texas A&M, Baylor, Nebraska, LSU and Oregon.
Like many recruits on Twitter, Jackson sees both the positive and the negative aspect of each program’s fan base thanks to the interconnected nature of the site. As such, Jackson posted an appeal to those that did not make his top 18 list, and urged others to understand the difficulty in his decision.
“Coaches and fans, if your school doesn’t appear on the list, it’s not a reflection on you or your program in a negative [light],” Jackson said. “I’ve enjoyed building these relationships, but these schools I feel like I have the best opportunity to set out to achieve my goals!”
Over the offseason, Jackson has taken trips to many of the schools on his list, and he plans on continuing that path over the summer. Some schools in line to receive a visit from the highly touted inside linebacker include UCF, Miami, Florida, FSU, Utah, UCLA and USC. This provides Jackson an opportunity to check out each campus since being comfortable is a high-ranking factor in his recruitment.
Standing at 6’2” and 239-pounds, Jackson is rated as a four-star prospect on 247sports.com, and checks in as the No. 2 inside linebacker in the country and No. 14 recruit overall in the state of Texas.
As one of the top recruits nationally, Jackson earned an invitation to The Opening, the premiere summer football camp that is invite-only to the country’s most elite prospects.
Now, however, Jackson is beginning to focus on his senior football season. Elsik just held its annual spring game on Saturday, and Jackson showed why he is worthy of such a gaudy offer list.
Expect for Jackson to further cut his list soon as he continues to find clarity on the recruiting process.
“I will be trimming this list in the very near future! Thank you.”
