Big 12/SEC Challenge Matchups Announced

The annual Big 12/SEC Challenge matchups were announced Thursday, and highlighting the event will be a contest between two major college heavyweights going against each other in Kentucky and Kansas. If you recall, the Wildcats and the Jayhawks played last season, with the Wildcats drubbing the Jayhawks, 72-40 in the State Farm Champions Classic.

What is unique about these games is that they will all take place on one day on January 30. This will put more of a spotlight on the event. By that time teams will be in the middle of conference play. So, we’ll be privileged to see these teams play meaningful out-of-conference games late into the season. Thus, this event will not get lost in the shadow of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge or other early -season tournaments.

The matchups are as follows:
Kentucky at Kansas
Vanderbilt at Texas
Georgia at Baylor
Tennessee at TCU
Ole Miss at Kansas State
Iowa State at Texas A&M
Oklahoma at LSU
West Virginia at Florida
Oklahoma State at Auburn
Texas Tech at Arkansas

Since the Big 12 only has 10 teams, four SEC teams had to be left out and they include South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi State and Missouri. This is the third series in the event. The Big 12 won last year’s series 6-4 and won the inaugural event as well. All games will be televised on the ESPN family of networks.
