Avery Johnson Jr. Transferring to Alabama

Avery Johnson Jr. is leaving Texas A&M and following his dad to Alabama.

Avery Johnson was hired as the Alabama men’s basketball coach replacing the fired Anthony Grant. His son, Johnson Jr., was a freshman at Texas A&M last season.

Johnson announced his decision via Twitter.

AL.com reported the news that he’ll be joining his father at Alabama. It probably wasn’t a difficult decision. He was granted his release on Friday.

A 5-11 guard, he averaged just 1.4 points per game last season.

Out of high school, Johnson Jr. was a three-star point guard from Plano West High School in Texas. At 247Sports, he was rated as the 56th best point guard.

Per NCAA rules, Johnson Jr. will have to sit out this coming season.
