Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn reiterated Monday that wide receiver D’haquille “Duke” Williams remains on suspension for an undisclosed disciplinary issue.
Williams, a 6’2”, 224-pound senior from Laplace, Louisiana, has remained on suspension for the last three days, while also missing Auburn’s Fan Day on Sunday. If you recall, he was also suspended for last season’s Outback Bowl against Wisconsin.
Malzahn repeatedly shot down questions regarding Williams’ status, saying, ”I’ll tell you when he gets back (as reported by the Associated Press)”
On Saturday, Malzahn said Williams’ suspension will be a “day-to-day” kind of thing.
“He had a discipline issue that we’re taking care of and when he takes care of that, he’ll be back on the field,” Malzahn said (as Brandon Marcello of AL.com reports). “I’ll make that decision. I will let you know when he’ll be back. Bottom line: nobody is bigger than the team around here and that’s between me and him.”
Williams, a preseason SEC All-American and potential NFL first-round draft pick. is coming off a season in which he recorded 45 receptions for 730 yards and five touchdowns.
