5-star small forward Troy Brown commits to Oregon

Oregon head basketball coach Dana Altman landed himself a significant recruit Monday when class of 2017 five-star small forward Troy Brown offered up a verbal pledge to play for the Ducks.

Brown made his decision with help from Bleacher Report. He announced his commitment from his atop the Stratosphere in Las Vegas, which is his hometown.

“I choose Oregon,” he said in the video. “Go Ducks.”

Brown, a 6’7”, 210-pound small forward from Las Vegas, Nevada (Centennial High School) is rated as a five-star recruit according to 247Sports. The site ranks him as the No. 13 overall prospect in the 2017 class and the third-best small forward in the country. 247Sports also regards Brown as the best basketball player in the state of Nevada.

He chose the Ducks over heavy interest from California, Arizona and Alabama. Brown also had offers from Georgetown, Kansas, Ohio State, Arizona State, Duke, Louisville, Texas, Texas Tech, UCLA and UNLV. Stanford and Oklahoma also showed a lot of interest in Brown.

Brown will join four-star point guard Victor Bailey and four-star small forward Abu Kigab in Altman’s sensational 2017 recruiting class. It is a class that 247Sports currently ranks as the ninth-best in the country and fourth among Pac-12 teams.

Pac-12 teams are cleaning up it up on the recruiting trail, as Arizona, Washington and UCLA own the top three spots on 247Sports’ composite class rankings. Meanwhile, Colorado’s class comes in at 12, with Cal coming in at 20.
