Palm Beach Gardens High School (FL) defensive end/outside linebacker Vandarius Cowan announced Sunday afternoon via Twitter that he has decided to decommit from Florida State to re-open his recruitment.
Cowan (6-foot-3, 221 lbs.), a four-star prospect and the No. 17 overall player from the state of Florida for the recruiting class of 2016, also holds offers from a handful of other big-time college football programs, such as Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Miami, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and more.
His decision comes less than 24 hours following Florida State’s shocking 23-17 loss at Georgia Tech, which ended in a blocked field goal returned 78 yards for the game-winning (or losing, in the Seminoles’ case) touchdown.
Even without Cowan, Jimbo Fisher’s 2016 class consists of 18 hard commits that give Florida State the No. 3-ranked class (No. 1 in ACC), per 247Sports’ team rankings.
