Antonneous Clayton, 4-star defensive end from Vienna, Georgia, committed to the Florida Gators on Wednesday morning.
Clayton announced his decision on Twitter, thanking all the coaches who had recruited him; but ultimately bursting their proverbial bubbles by committing to Jim McElwain and his Gators’ staff.

This will go down as a huge commitment for Florida, as Clayton is unanimously one of the top players at his position in the country. According to the industry generated 247Sports Composite, he’s ranked as the No. 8 weak-side defensive end nationally. He’s also the No. 12 player from the state of Georgia, which is a region populated with elite recruiting talent on a yearly basis.
Not surprisingly, Clayton boasts a pretty impressive offer list with 39 offers overall. Getting one collegiate scholarship offer is a big deal, so with 38 other schools taking a chance on him that should tell you a bit about the player Florida just received a commitment from.
Among other schools, Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Clemson, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, UCLA and Wisconsin had offered Clayton. Surprisingly, his home-state school of Georgia didn’t offer, or at least hasn’t yet.
With the addition of Clayton, Florida’s 2016 recruiting class is now ranked No. 12 nationally, according to the 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings.
