3 Dark Horses to Watch Out for in the AAC

If you aren’t into favorites or simply enjoy a good underdog story, then this one’s for you. According to Merriam-Webster’s full definition, a dark horse is “a usually little known contender (as a racehorse) that makes an unexpectedly good showing.” I’m sure most of you knew that as the term is frequently used, but I wanted to be sure to set the parameters on this right off the bat.

These teams aren’t garnering the offseason hype with the likes of Houston, Memphis and Cincinnati, nor will they find much love in the preseason polls or coverage during fall camp. But, it’s not inconceivable that they could come out victorious in a fairly wide-open AAC with many teams in transition and not one without areas of concern.

I’ve got three teams who are perceived to be among the second tier of the AAC that I think could make the leap and shock everyone by winning the inaugural conference¬†championship game. And it all starts with the team making its conference debut this fall.
