LA GRANGE, Ill. – Earlier in the summer, Nazareth Academy running back Ivory Kelly-Martin camped at Wisconsin, which is when he earned his scholarship offer from the Badgers. Since that time, Kelly-Martin has picked up offers from Illinois State and Indiana State.
Six weeks into the season, Kelly-Martin is optimistic about his team’s chances after suffering a tough loss to Marian Catholic Central earlier in the year.
“Its been going pretty well,” Kelly-Martin told Today’s U. “I know we had a tough loss week four, but we won our last two games and we are trying to get better and win this upcoming week.”
Kelly-Martin, who checks in at 5’11” and 175-pounds, is listed as a three-star prospect on Scout.com. So far, the talented back has eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark and scored 16 touchdowns.
“I’m a one-cut back with really good vision and I know how to get to the holes really fast and set up my blocks,” Kelly-Martin said. “I have really good speed, I know how to get those competitive yards and those first downs when I need it.”
On the recruiting trail, several schools have taken notice of his talent and invited Kelly-Martin to take game day visits to campus in order to get the full experience as a recruit.
“It’s going really well,” Kelly-Martin said. “I’m getting a lot of really big looks and offers from some really good schools. Right now I’m just going on visits to schools that are contacting me. I’m also reaching out to schools as well.
Kelly-Martin picked up his Wisconsin offer from running backs coach John Settle shortly after his performance at a Badgers’ summer camp.
“I was definitely excited and happy about it as well as my other offers,” Kelly-Martin said. “Knowing the level of coaching and players they have had at the running back position was a plus for me.”
With an offer from the Badgers in hand, Kelly-Martin jumped at the opportunity to visit Madison and check out what the Wisconsin program has to offer. He came away impressed with what he saw and compared his time on campus to his Notre Dame visit.
“Both of those visits were really great. Both places were amazing and I really enjoyed both of the coaching staffs as well as the players. They are definitely places I would love to go back to again.”
Recently, Kelly-Martin took a trip to Northwestern’s campus and recapped his visit.
“It was a really good visit,” Kelly-Martin said. “I didn’t get there in time to get a tour of the place, but the game was pretty good. I got to talk to all the coaches in the locker room, so it was overall a pretty good visit.”
With several visits under his belt, Kelly-Martin plans to make several more stops before the season is over. Since the three-star junior recruit is lighting it up on the field for Nazareth, more offers may be on the way, which Kelly-Martin says would factor into his visit schedule.
“I have a Purdue visit,” Kelly-Martin said. “Then I’ll be going to Iowa State as well as Vanderbilt. Then I’ll be going to Virginia.”
According to his Scout profile, Kelly-Martin runs a 4.57-second 40-yard dash, an impressive mark for a rising junior athlete. Look for Kelly-Martin to continue to set a few more impressive marks before his time at Nazareth is done.
