REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio. – Chris Strickland is a linebacker from Reynoldsburg High School, and he’s an under-the-radar 2017 recruit to keep an eye on.
Strickland has great size at 6-foot-2, 230 pounds and he tells Today’s U that there are a number of schools that he’s hearing from. Notably, Strickland relays that he’s been hearing from two Big Ten schools: Indiana and Michigan State. Eastern Michigan, Akron and Cincinnati have also reached out, per the Ohio recruit.
“Just mail saying that I’m a top player in my class. Some invite me to games,” Strickland said when asked what the general message has been to him from the schools that have reached out. Indiana, Eastern Michigan and Cincinnati have all invited him to watch a game this season, and he specifically spoke about his interest in the Hoosiers’ program, saying, “I like the campus, and the team. The coaches seem cool and they have my major.”
For the record, Strickland already knows that he wants to study Astrobiology
Though he doesn’t have any offers yet, the 2017 recruit feels that Eastern Michigan will be the first program to take a chance on him. He also feels that Indiana is taking a hard look at him as well as a potential prospect, and that’s well worth noting considering his expressed interest in the Hoosiers.
Though he still has a long way to go, and he still has to pick up a few offers, Strickland already knows two factors that will end up being important to him in the recruiting process.
“If the school has my major, and if I like the atmosphere of the football team,” he told Today’s U.
Though he does also play running back, Strickland’s greatest impact as a recruit projects to be as an inside linebacker. As mentioned above, he does have the frame to play in a “phone booth” between the tackles, and he has good instincts in the interior of a defense. He’s also physical at the point of attack, and will be tough to move at the second level. He’ll need to work on ripping through blocks and getting a bit quicker, but it’s not a surprise to hear that several MAC schools are interested in him.
He does have the raw ability to be a interesting AAC or even a Big Ten recruit with a good junior and great senior year, so Strickland is well worth keeping an eye on.
