Mike Singer of Deacons Illustrated reports that Wake Forest has landed three-star linebacker recruit Chase Monroe from North Carolina. Singer quotes Monroe as saying:
“With everything Wake is doing, they are becoming a football school. Better facilities are bringing in awesome recruits. The 2017 class is so pumped for the fans to come support us.
“We are going to give 110% to the university and bring the hard work that the team is building now to an ACC Championship.”
247Sports now ranks the Deacons as having the 46th-best recruiting class in the nation from the high school class of 2017.
Our Landon Wright wrote earlier this month about how Monroe had limited his final choice to four different schools: Wake Forest, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Mississippi State. At the time, Monroe told Wright:
“Something else I’m really looking for is a great relationship with the coaches and I have a great relationship with the linebackers coach a Wake Forest and also at Mississippi State. West Virginia is still kind of new and at Kentucky I’m building a great relationship with coach (D.J.) Eliot. So, a great relationship, the opportunity to play early and those types of things are what I’m looking for.”
Wake Forest has gone 3-9 in each of the last two seasons, the first two seasons from coach Dave Clawson. The Deacons has not finished above .500 since 2008, when the team went 8-5 and won the EagleBank Bowl.
