The Vanderbilt Commodores will be without one of their starters on defense against Western Kentucky. Linebacker Nigel Bowden was ruled inactive as Vandy takes on the Hilltoppers tonight.
Bowden was injured twice last week as Vanderbilt played Georgia Tech. The linebacker came off of the field in the fourth quarter of the Commodores 38-7 blowout defeat last Saturday, and the injuries Bowden suffered are serious enough to keep him out of action against Western Kentucky.
Bowden has been having his best season to date for the Commodores so far in 2016. The junior linebacker bounced back from a sophomore season in which he could only play in two games. Injuries were the setback for a player who has produced when on the field for Vanderbilt with 111 tackles in just 16 games over three seasons.
Talent hasn’t been the problem for Bowden. He has 14 total tackles in three games for Vanderbilt this season, and he can still have a big year once he returns.
Vanderbilt will look to put their 1-2 start to the season in the past without Bowden as they take on Western Kentucky in a big non-conference game. The Commodores are in need of a big win before a tough SEC test of three straight games with two of those on the road. Western Kentucky has similar hopes at 2-1 on the season and with Bowden out, the Hilltoppers offense will be looking to exploit an injured group of Vanderbilt linebackers.
