There has never been a more prolific game in college football history in terms of offense than Saturday night’s Oklahoma-Texas Tech game. The two teams combined for the most yards of offense in any game in history and Red Raiders quarterback Patrick Mahomes broke the single-game record for most yards of offense, becoming the first player to ever exceed the 800-yard mark.

The No. 16 Sooners actually won the game by a final of 66-59 to move to 5-2 on the season, continuing to salvage hope that if they can win out the remainder of the season, they may find their way into the College Football Playoff. For all the hype that surrounds Mahomes’ night, the Sooners had quarterback Baker Mayfield throw for 545 yards and seven touchdowns, while running back Joe Mixon carried the ball 31 times for 263 yards to go along with two rushing touchdowns and three receiving touchdowns. Mayfield’s seven touchdown are an Oklahoma record, while Mixon becomes just the third player in the last 20 years to have 250 rushing yards and 100 receiving yards in a game.

When the smoke cleared, the two teams combined for 1,708 yards, the most ever in a single game in NCAA history, which each team generating exactly 854 yards of offense each. Red Raiders quarterback Patrick Mahomes generated nearly half of those yards, tying the single-game passing yard mark at 734 while rushing for another 85, making him the first player in NCAA history to have an 800-yard game. He finished the night 52-for-88 through the air.

It becomes the second time this season the Red Raiders have allowed at least 66 points, with a 68-55 defeat at the hands of the Arizona State Sun Devils coming back in September.
