The two prestigious programs have squared off a few times before. They are also slated to play in this year’s Big Ten/ACC Challenge on November 30, with the game played in Bloomington.
Indiana has already been announced as one of the four teams selected to play in the 2K Sports Classic next season, which will played at Madison Square Garden as well. Indiana will be joined by Providence, Virginia Tech and Washington in the 2K Sports Classic.
The Hoosiers last played in the Jimmy V Classic in 2014 when they lost to Louisville.
According to the terms of the contract, the game will either tip off at 7 p.m. or “approximately” 9 p.m., Dec. 4, 2018, and Indiana will wear its road crimson uniforms. While the contract does not specify, the Jimmy V Classic — which IU has participated in twice under coach Tom Crean — is typically held at Madison Square Garden as well.
Indiana will receive a $200,000 fee from ESPN for its participation, and will be responsible for its own expenses.
Indiana is coming off a tremendous 2016 campaign in which the Hoosiers went 27-8 overall while winning the regular season Big Ten crown with a 15-3 conference mark. The Hoosiers’ season ironically ended with a loss to North Carolina in the Sweet 16.
Indiana leads the series over North Carolina, 8-5.
