Things turned ugly on special teams in the Minnesota Golden Gophers game against Penn State as a Gophers player decided to take liberties on the Nittany Lions kicker.
Redshirt freshman Jaylen Waters was ejected in the second half for unsportsmanlike conduct on a hit on the kicker on a play that resulted in a touchback. A targeting penalty was called as Penn State’s Joey Julius got hit with a helmet-to-helmet hit behind the play by Waters.
You can see a video of the play below as you can clearly see Waters stalking for a cheap shot on Julius.

Waters was a three-star recruit out of high school before redshirting in 2015 for the Gophers. Expect the Minnesota coaching staff to address Waters as he will be receiving the attention of Big Ten officials over this hit.
Julius has been a cult hero for Penn State as a 271-pound kicker known to deliver big hits on special teams of his own. Named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team last season, Julius is also an accurate kicker who hopefully won’t miss playing time after taking the late hit from Waters in what was an unfortunate situation.
Minnesota came into play undefeated on the season at 3-0, taking on the 2-2 Nittany Lions. At time of publish, the teams headed to overtime, tied at 23.
Rodney Smith and Shannon Brooks each rushed for over 100 yards for the Golden Gophers. Trace McSorely ended regulation with 335 yards passing and a touchdown for Penn State.
