According to a report from 247Sports on Tuesday, the LSU Tigers’ football program has bolstered their defensive front by adding 3-star defensive tackle Neil Farrell. Snagging Farrell from the state of Alabama, LSU now has 18 commitments in all for the class of 2017.
However, it is also worth mentioning that Tuesday’s commitment is a verbal pact as the up-and-coming defensive lineman chose the Tigers over other frontrunners in the Alabama Crimson Tide, Clemson Tigers, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles and Kentucky Wildcats. On the other hand, he also received offers from the likes of the Michigan Wolverines, South Carolina Gamecocks and Louisville Cardinals among several others.
Per 247Sports, Farrell is ranked in the top 500 nationally for the class of 2017 while currently slated as the No. 25 overall player in the state of Alabama. Specifically, he is the No. 39 defensive tackle in the entire country.
A native of Mobile Alabama, Farrell recently completed his junior season at Murphy High School. In doing so, he was named as a first-team Class 7A All-State selection accompanied by Coastal Alabama All-Region honors. En route to being rewarded for his efforts, Farrell finished his junior campaign with 86 total tackles including 17 tackles for a loss.
Last season, the Tigers finished the year with a 9-3 overall record accompanied by a 5-3 mark in SEC play. Nonetheless, LSU will enter next season as one of the favorites to take home a SEC title when all is said and done in 2016-2017.
