The tailgating/party scene around LSU home football games in Baton Rouge is legendary. Now, it appears that Tigers fans will have the opportunity to drink a beer that allows them to quench their thirst while supporting the Bayou Bengals.

Tin Roof Brewery, which is based in Baton Rouge, has announced the launch of Bayou Bengal, a premium American lager. The beer is officially licensed by LSU and comes in purple and gold cans featuring the school’s familiar roaring tiger’s head logo.
In order to find the right type of beer, Tin Roof Brewing conducted a blind taste test, inviting members of the local community to participate.
“The response was overwhelming and we were only able to include 5 percent of the applicants to participate in the two panels,” Rivers Hughey, Tin Roof’s marketing director, said in a press release. “The good news is that we’re going to host a pre-release party at the tap room for everyone who applied to be on the panel, so they can be the first to taste Bayou Bengal.”
From BeerStreetJournal.com: Ultimately, a premium American lager style was chosen. A solid, clean, crisp beer great for the persistent heat of Louisiana.
“There were no less than five distinct Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) styles represented in the slate of eight,” said Audra Gaiziunas, CEO of Tin Roof Brewing Company. “We had a fantastic time and those who attended provided outstanding and detailed feedback.”
The next step is producing enough Bayou Bengal brew to accommodate demand in time for the LSU season-opener against Wisconsin Sept. 3.
