Florida Gators’ linebacker Alex Anzalone will likely miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken arm, per a report from SEC Country. Anzalone suffered the injury in the Gators’ 31-10 loss to Arkansas on Saturday.

On top of losing one of their defensive stars, Florida tanked in the rankings, falling from No. 10 to No. 22 in the AP Poll after the loss.

Anzalone as been dealing with arm issues since he joined the Gators in 2013. A shoulder injury gave him trouble as a freshman, and in 2015, he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury and missed the final 12 games of the year. He took on a medical redshirt and still has another year of eligibility remaining.

The veteran linebacker has started 30 games for Florida and has recorded 67 tackles. This season, he has recorded 53 tackles, the second most on the team. That mark also ranks 17th in the SEC.

Another Gators’ standout linebacker, Jarrad Davis, is dealing with an ankle issue, leaving Florida without two of their best defenders. The Gators are last as a team in total tackles, so being without one of their best tacklers for the rest of 2016 complicates matters further.

Anzalone was ranked as the fourth best outside linebacker and fourth best recruit in Pennsylvania as part of the class of 2013. He had many offers from major programs before signing on with the Gators.

Anzalone earned his bachelor’s degree in August and could enter the 2017 NFL Draft. He could also stay for his redshirt senior season. A second season-ending arm injury may incentivize him to stay and show what he has when healthy before heading to the professional ranks.
