Two ACC head football coaches received fines for their critical remarks of the conference’s officials from this past week when Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher got hit with a $20,000 fine following Saturday’s home loss to Clemson and Pittsburgh head coach Pat Narduzzi got a $5,000 fine following the team’s home loss on Thursday to Virginia Tech.
The Seminoles suffered a crushing 37-34 loss on Saturday evening in a shootout with the No. 3 Clemson Tigers, moving them to 5-3 on the season. A late penalty while Florida State’s offense was driving caused Fisher to berate the officials on field to the point that he needed to be held back.
After a wild Week 1 comeback win over Ole Miss, the Seminoles have gone on to lose three-time – all in conference play – and now sit at 2-3 inside the ACC for the year. Next up on the schedule is a road date to take on North Carolina State set for next weekend.
Also losing by three points at home to a conference foe in a shootout was Pitt, who also moved to 5-3 on the season following their loss to Virginia Tech. Narduzzi is in just his second year as head coach for the Panthers, having come over after most recently having served as defensive coordinator at Michigan State. He has gone 13-7 this far in his tenure.
The Panthers moved to 2-2 inside the ACC on the season with a road date in Miami next up on the schedule. Their three losses on the year have come by a combined 11 points with their Thursday loss being their first at home.
