Duke Blue Devils cornerback DeVon Edwards has left the game with an injury. A first half exit for Edwards is an early shake-up to the proceedings in South Bend as the Blue Devils traveled to take on the Fighting Irish.
Edwards needed to be helped off the field in the early stages against Notre Dame following a kick return. It will likely shut down the Duke cornerback for the rest of the afternoon as Edwards appears to be done for the day.
Edwards has been stellar for the Blue Devils throughout his career as an explosive kick returner who also helps out in the secondary at cornerback. The proof of Edwards’ contribution to the Duke defense through his four seasons with the program comes in the form of 327 career tackles and four interceptions.
Where Duke would miss Edwards the most would be in the return game as the cornerback is one of the most dangerous special teams weapons in the nation. He has six career touchdowns in the return game.
With Edwards out of the game against the Fighting Irish, Duke currently has Shaun Wilson on kickoff return duties. Wilson had a return touchdown against the Irish in the first half as it appears the Blue Devils are in good hands on special teams for the time being with Edwards on the shelf.
The Blue Devils were tied at 14-14 with Notre Dame on the road at time of publish, early in what is an interesting game between the ACC underdogs and the struggling Fighting Irish.
