Colorado’s feel good start to their season is currently on the brink as the Buffaloes are having a nightmare start on the road against the USC Trojans. That nightmare start has included the brief loss of their starting quarterback as the Buffaloes were forced to start their comeback attempt without Steven Montez.
Montez left the game after a hit from Trojans’ linebacker Porter Gustin, making way for Sefo Liufau for the first time after three games of Montez leading the charge for the Buffaloes.
The injured signal caller has been electric for the Buffaloes throughout their 4-1 start that put them in the top 25 for the first time in 11 years ahead of Saturday’s game against the Trojans. The sophomore quarterback has managed eight touchdowns as each was crucial in the success of the Buffaloes in September He also has the ability to prevent mistakes with just two interceptions in those four games.
With Colorado currently trailing USC by the score of 14-7, Montez has managed less than 100 yards through the air. While completing 14 of his 22 pass attempts, he now has 86 yards through the air as the Buffaloes’ lone score came on a 67-yard toss from wide receiver Bryce Bobo. It is also worth noting that Montez does have an interception on the day.
On the other hand, Liufau completed two of his three pass attempts for just 11 yards in the brief absence of Montez. Liufau also failed to record a touchdown or interception.
